K-pop dance is a full-body experience that combines music, performance, and an insane amount of energy. If you’ve ever watched a BTS, BLACKPINK, or Stray Kids music video and thought, How do they even move like that?!—welcome to the club.

There’s a reason why dance challenges on TikTok go viral every time a new K-pop song drops.

But here’s the thing: K-pop dance is actually designed to be learnable. While some routines are undeniably intense (looking at you, ITZY and NCT), most idol choreography follows a formula that makes it easy to break down into smaller steps. That’s why dance studios worldwide (including right here in Dallas!) offer K-pop classes for all skill levels.

Beyond the technical side, K-pop dance has a cultural element that makes it even more addictive. It’s deeply tied to the K-pop trainee system, where idols train for years to master their craft. In South Korea, dancing is as much a part of the music industry as singing and rapping, and it’s often what makes or breaks an idol’s career. When you learn these routines, you’re not just dancing—you’re getting the tiniest glimpse into the world of your favorite idols.

Our Experience at K-pop Dance Classes

We once tried learning a K-pop dance at home, and let’s just say… it was hard. (Respect to all idols who do this in heels.) That’s why having an actual instructor break things down makes all the difference. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed trying to follow a dance tutorial online, these classes are a game changer.

So, if you’re ready to channel your inner K-pop star and dance like you’re on Music Bank, check out K-pop Dance Dallas! 💃🎶

From Korea to Dallas: Lexi’s Experience

Lexi here! When I lived in Korea, I took a K-pop, hip-hop class, and damnnnn, the instructor was literally the best twerker I’ve ever seen. How she made her butt move like that — not to mention the rest of her body — completely blew me away. Although I was excited to learn something new, I definitely felt out of my element. With that experience in mind, I knew this Dallas class was going to be a challenge.

Trying K-Pop Dance Classes in Dallas

Autumn and I went with a friend last year, and this time I brought along our good friend Carley and my mom, Rosie! My mom and I have done belly dance classes, Latin dance classes, Country dance classes and several other styles — but not K-pop. This may have been the most challenging one yet.

Observations from Class:

✔️ Anyone—any age—is welcome.
✔️ The younger students were so good. (Too good? Like, wow!)
✔️ The instructor was incredibly nice and welcoming — even though we were obviously floundering.
✔️ Funny enough, we weren’t even dancing to a K-pop song! Turns out, you don’t have to dance to K-pop music to do K-pop dance. It’s a whole style of movement.
✔️ With one of us dealing with long-haul COVID, there was a moment when we just had to sit down at the back of the class to catch our breath. The teacher was totally chill about it.
✔️ The energy in the room was so positive. At the end, we thanked the teacher, and she told us, “I’m so happy you guys came.”

And it wasn’t just her even the other students were super encouraging! No pressure, no judgment, just a lot of fun and a great workout. So, if you’re thinking about trying K-pop dance, go for it! Don’t be intimidated!

Want to Learn Some Basic K-pop Dance Moves?

Before you head to a class, why not get a head start at home? Here’s a quick video tutorial covering some beginner-friendly K-pop dance steps! 📹

If you want to practice before hitting the studio, start with signature moves from popular songs. Think:

✅ The iconic shoulder bounce from BTS’s “Boy With Luv”
✅ The sassy hand wave from BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That”
✅ The hip isolations from Stray Kids’ “God’s Menu”

Once you get the basics down, you’ll feel way more confident stepping into an actual class.

How to Prepare for Your K-pop Dance Classes

So you’re ready to step into the world of K-pop dance — exciting! But if you’ve never taken a dance class before (or even if you have), you might be wondering: What do I wear? What should I expect? Will I look like a total mess? (Spoiler: No, because everyone starts somewhere!)

Here’s everything you need to know before your first class.

1. Wear the Right Clothes

K-pop idols may perform in leather pants and platform boots, but for class, comfort is key.

What to wear:

  • Leggings, joggers, or sweatpants (anything that moves with you)
  • A comfy T-shirt, tank top, or cropped hoodie
  • Sneakers with good grip (but not too sticky—smooth soles help with spins)

🚫 What NOT to wear:

  • Jeans (you’ll regret it instantly)
  • Super loose clothing that gets in the way of movement
  • Sandals, boots, or anything that isn’t made for dancing

2. Bring the Essentials

You don’t need much for K-pop class, but a few things will make your experience way smoother:

🔹 Water bottle – You will sweat. Stay hydrated!
🔹 A small towel – Optional, but helpful if you tend to overheat.
🔹 A hair tie – If your hair gets in your face, you’ll want to tie it back.
🔹 A positive attitude – Seriously, no one expects you to be perfect on day one.

3. Know What to Expect

Most K-pop dance classes follow a simple format:

1️⃣ Warm-up: Some stretching and light cardio to get you moving.
2️⃣ Step breakdown: The instructor will teach you parts of the routine, step by step.
3️⃣ Slow practice: You’ll go through the moves at a slower speed.
4️⃣ Full-out dance: You’ll try the routine at full speed, just like the idols do!

Don’t stress if you can’t pick everything up right away—even seasoned dancers take time to get it down. Just have fun, keep moving, and enjoy the music!

4. Watch the Choreography Beforehand (Optional but Helpful!)

If you already know which song you’ll be learning, watching the dance practice video in advance can give you a head start. Focus on how the dancers move rather than trying to memorize every step.

Some great places to find K-pop choreography:
📺 YouTube Channels: Official dance practice videos from BTS, BLACKPINK, etc.
📱 TikTok: Quick tutorials and slowed-down versions of routines.
👀 Instagram Reels: Many dancers break down popular moves step by step.

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Mess Up!

No one in the room is judging you—everyone is too busy trying to get the moves right themselves! Dance class is all about improving, so don’t worry if you feel awkward at first. Just focus on having fun, and with practice, you’ll get better fast.

Who knows? You might just discover your new favorite hobby. 😉
