Why We Chose …
Scarborough Fair in Waxahachie Texas
We chose to cover the Scarborough Renaissance Fair because it’s one of the only events in Texas that provides an all-day, enrapturing experience. Though some may find the cost somewhat pricey ($38 at the gate), once you arrive, you are captivated by all manner of shops, activities and shows. It’s an experience that’s totally worth it! And, if you’re an early bird, from now through May 27, 2024, you can pre-purchase your tickets for $32 each (plus taxes & fees). Also, the ticket price includes general parking!
We loved the artisan craft shops. They offer unique items like glass fountain ink pens, specialized boomerangs, elaborate body jewelry, Ocarinas (look them up!) and other items you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. And the top-tier shopping isn’t the only thing that makes the Scarborough Renaissance Fair an unforgettable experience. The Fair’s hands-on approach to shopping is second to none. (It’s all about the experience!)
Before I purchased my new boomerang, my friends and I played with it out in a field. And, before my friend bought a new set of fountain pens for her journal, we literally tried out 50 different signatures; we were practicing for the day we would be signing books as Authors. And of course, for the Ocarina, we blew into them like banshees trying to summon fairies from the surrounding forests. (I might not do that again. Germs, you know.)
Almost every item has a demonstration. You don’t just buy a lovely vase, you watch the glass being blown as the heat from the kiln settles on your skin. You don’t just end the day with an armful of unique snacks, you sample everything from every shop on every road you walk. And, you don’t just buy a perfumed necklace, you either make the scent yourself or sample smells until your nose can’t tell rose scent from sandalwood. Simply put, Scarborough Fair is one of those great DFW things to do!
