This place is fantastic! Not only is it one of the best coffee shops in White Rock; It’s one of the best coffee shops in Dallas, period! And that’s because it has an amazing mission. With two locations — one in White Rock and one in Bishop Arts — Well Grounded Coffee is brewing up coffee and change.

Our Experience
The moment we walked in, we knew we would love this place. Actually, we knew it before we even entered, because right on the building, to the left of the name Well Grounded Coffee, it said, “Cause.” And on the right side of the name, it said “Community.”
Those two words encapsulate Well Grounded Coffee perfectly.

If you love a mission-driven business and a coffee shop with food, homemade pastries, good vibes, and a great cause, look no further than Well Grounded Coffee Community. With locally sourced ingredients, including bread from a local bakery (their sourdough is delicious!), dessert from local bakers (we’re dessert snobs, and even we have to tip our hats) and of course, coffee beans which are locally roasted (yum!), this place has everything it needs to make your palate and stomach happy. Might we recommend the Honey Lavender Latte!

The Atmosphere
We love ordering from here, and we love eating here too because there’s so much life.

On the walls, you’ll see pictures of people’s faces and flyers inviting you to game night, or music hour, or maybe to make some jewelry while reading a book. People sit at tables, chatting, painting, listening to music, and sometimes all of the above. And the patrons this business attracts are so genuine, you can’t help but smile.
The crowd is perfect, and we think that’s because they want to support Well Grounded Coffee just like us! This cafe is a third space that is committed to transforming lives by hiring women who need help.
History, Purpose, and Mission: Building a Path to Victory
At Well Grounded Coffee, second chances are at the heart of everything. This coffee house was created to offer marginalized women in DFW the opportunity to rewrite their stories — stories of hope, healing, and victory.
The History and Purpose

Meet Natalie
Natalie, the owner of Well Grounded Coffee, has always believed in ‘lifting others out of darkness.’ Inspired by her faith and a deep desire to create lasting change, she partnered with Exodus Ministries, a transitional home for formerly incarcerated moms. This partnership became the foundation for Well Grounded — one of the most unique coffee shops in White Rock — where women are offered jobs, career paths, educational opportunities, spiritual support, and a strong community to help them build a brighter future for themselves and their children.

Until the day we die, no one’s story is fully written
– Natalie Huscheck
Victory looks different for everyone. For Natalie, it’s empowering others to find hope. For Hannah, a barista at Well Grounded, it’s realizing that “to change your future, you have to change the people, environments, and habits in your life.” Their testimonies (and the stories of countless others connected to Well Grounded Coffee) highlight the transformative impact of this community-focused mission.
In 2020, after forming a nonprofit organization called The Dignity Project and securing a space in East Dallas, Well Grounded Coffee Community became a reality. By fall of that year, the coffee house had hired its first two baristas from Exodus Ministries and opened its doors to the community.

Owner Interview
We love having the opportunity to interview business owners who are making a positive impact in DFW. It’s truly our favorite part of writing this blog. So you can imagine how excited we were to sit down with Natalie, the amazing woman who started it all!

Q. Can you tell me the story behind Well Grounded Coffee?
Natalie:
The story behind Well Grounded Coffee Community is hope. It’s about hope — at a moment in my life when it felt like I was losing hope.

It was a very dark season, but I felt that God gave me hope. Then he told me he was going to show me how to lift other women out of darkness and give them hope.
Q. What do you love most about Well Grounded Coffee?
Natalie:
I’m going to have to say two things:
- The sisterhood that is created with the women I hire and the team. We create a safe place for growth and for healing because all of us have experienced such profound trauma, and —
- The customers and the community that’s built in the coffeehouse, and how we know their names when they walk in. We usually know what drinks they order, and then they meet each other too, and customers become friends with other customers.
Q. How do you think Well Grounded Coffee adds to the larger Dallas-Fort Worth community?
Natalie:
We are a place of community. We build community, we draw in community, and I think it’s because we have such a strong cause. They come in for coffee, they learn about our mission, and then we come up with creative ways to partner.

For example, right at this moment, we’re partnered with a local school for a book drive. The community is bringing books and they’re ordering coffee, and they’re sitting together and having conversations. We also have a once-a-month music jam where all the local musicians come in. We clear out the space and circle up, and they play music around and around. So many fun ways we build community and support each other!
Q. What do you hope people feel after coming to Well Grounded Coffee, or after attending one of your events?
Natalie:
A sense of purpose for having engaged in our mission and supported our mission. I always want this place to be warm and welcoming, almost like grandma’s living room.

Safe. Safe is the biggest word. It’s amazing just to look around right now and see people talking, working. I always have fun just seeing that. We have a wonderful customer that’s working on a law degree. Right now, there’s two people on the back couch knitting. People come in for so many different reasons.
Q. How do you consider or work towards inclusivity in your organization?
Natalie:
I think that’s one of the things we do best because of the nature of the baristas that we hire. They have all experienced trauma. They have lived in spaces with rejection, where people have told them they’re not okay. Then they come in with whatever background they have, whether it’s a prison background, an addiction background, a sex traffic or prostitution background, and they find grace and acceptance. That then extends also to our customers. It just becomes a place of grace and a welcoming place of non-judgment.

Q. Do you have a vision for Well Grounded Coffee in the future?
Natalie:
We’re working really hard right now to simplify and become highly duplicatable!
We did duplicate once already in Bishop Arts, which we’re so proud of because that allows us to hire more women and help more women. So we know we can duplicate coffee houses, but it doesn’t even have to be a coffee house. We have women who aspire to have their own business, like a dog grooming business or a cleaning service. And so, with the same idea, you could make almost any business.

We want to help people become more open to the idea of giving second chances in their hiring process by hiring people with felonies and helping them see what a successful path for that employee would look like. So, we definitely want to continue duplicating, but we also want to help others duplicate what we’re doing.
Additionally, we’ve always hoped to include a housing component. When the women we hire graduate from their programs and transition from safe, supportive living to independent housing in Dallas, it’s sometimes too big of a transition. It’s an opportunity for failure. We’ve found creative ways to help them through this transition. However, if we had our own housing, our success rate would double or even more than double. Housing is such a challenging component when you have a background, and even to financially afford a safe housing situation in Dallas can be a struggle.
